Following the success of the World Zero Evictions Days, preparations for the World Assembly of Inhabitants (WAI) continue. The WAI will be held at the Dakar WSF in 2011. Several Promotor Committees have already been set up in various countries, with further committees currently taking shape on every continent: in particular, there are plans to set up committees during this year’s Social Forums. These preparations make the Rio de Janeiro step (22-26 March 2010) a major event. It will include the Urban Social Forum (USF), organized by local urban social movements and international housing rights networks, and the World Urban Forum 5 (WUF5), organized by UN-Habitat.

A l’occasion des « Journées Internationales pour le droit au logement sans frontières » de Bobigny, une rencontre s’est déroulée entre une délégation de Droit à l’Energie SOS Futur et de l'Alliance Internationale des Habitants. Il a été convenu que l’échéance de l'Assemblée Mondiale des Habitants (FSM Dakar, février 2011), présentait une réelle opportunité pour permettre l’émergence d’un travail commun.

The commitment of the FAL Network with the World Assembly of Inhabitants November 17th, Mexico FD. The hall was crowded and two screens were installed outside in order that the mass of local authorities and social activists gathered could follow the meeting. A group of more than 250 participants, including more than a hundred mayors, attended the Meeting of Progressive Local Authorities heading to Dakar 2011, which was held in the framework of the 3rd Mayors and Local Governments (UCLG) World Summit.

To fund air tickets to support the participation of 6 leaders from the National Network of Inhabitants of Cameroon in the World Social Forum/World Assembly of Inhabitants in Dakar. If more than 5,000 euros is raised the surplus funds will be used to support the participation of organisations from other countries. In addition to support for development, solidarity means exchanging experiences and new initiatives!

Abdel Sadi, Mairie de Bobigny, présente la Déclaration du FAL à l'Assemblée Mondiale des Habitants The 9th  World Assembly of the Forum of Local Authorities, taking place in Dakar (Senegal) on February 8, 2011, fully supports and shows its solidarity with World Assembly of Inhabitants of February 10 in Dakar. We are committed to carrying out joint measures with inhabitants organizations to declare our territories “anti-eviction zones” and to organize chains of solidarity to ensure that this declaration is actually acted upon.
