This is a Joint Position Paper prepared by members of the Campaign Against Forced Evictions in the Informal Settlements in Nairobi on March 17th 2004. In the last few weeks, Nairobi informal settlements residents have experienced great threat to their short and long term stability, resultant from threats of demolition and eviction.

The Decriminalization/Civil Rights Campaign is one of several initiatives and events that will be part of the WAI’s World Habitat Days. The “Stop Dumping Death on Us”
campaign has disclosed to the media its Memorandum on waste management system in Nairobi and the decommissioning of Dandora dumping site. The memorandum set a clear demand for the President and the Prime Minister to provide leadership in this process and appeals to them to set up a framework to coordinate Waste Management in Nairobi and the relocation of Dandora dumping site. The campaigners asked the President and the Prime Minister to intervene to avoid uncoordinated efforts which may lead to duplication of efforts and possible institutional conflicts among different government actors.

dismay to find the U.S. government again looking to feed the “speculative fever” of banks and private investors, while millions of U.S. families are homeless or on the brink of losing their homes to evictions and foreclosures.

Agreements and conclusions of the meeting of coordination between urban networks.
On 24 January 2007, a convergence meeting of urban social movements playing a role in the right housing and to the city was held in Nairobi under the framework of the WSF, jointly proposed by the HIC and IAI.
Participants: around 200 representatives of movements from 20 countries in Africa, Europe, Northern and Latin America and Asia, as well as local authorities that are members of the LAF.
