Santo Domingo: Evictions, People’s Housing Funds and Collective Property Cooperatives
As part of the World Zero Evictions Days 2007 campaign, a wide variety of national and international institutions are organizing a workshop in Santo Domingo on Evictions, People’s Housing Funds and Collective Property Cooperatives. The aim is to highlight the progress of the creation of a People’s Fund for Housing and Land which is providing millions of people, who are subjected to housing insecurity and evictions in Peru and the Dominican Republic, with access to land and property deeds.

On 24 January 2007, a convergence meeting of urban social movements playing a role in the right housing and to the city was held in Nairobi under the framework of the WSF, jointly proposed by the HIC and IAI.
Participants: around 200 representatives of movements from 20 countries in Africa, Europe, Northern and Latin America and Asia, as well as local authorities that are members of the LAF.

Nigeria: Security forces use violence against demonstrators
Amnesty International condemns the excessive use of force by some members of the security forces in Bundu waterfront community, Port Harcourt, Rivers State on 12 October. At least three people were killed and eleven seriously injured when combined troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) and police used firearms to disperse a crowd.

Travellers and Romany people from across Europe have protested against the planned evictions. Travellers and Romany people will be forcibly removed from an illegal site in Essex if they do not leave voluntarily, councillors have decided. Basildon council's development control and traffic management committee voted to take direct action at Dale Farm, between Billericay and Basildon. The committee also voted to take out an injunction and take similar action at The Paddocks near Wickford.

The year 2011 had the highest number of documented cases of eviction since 1994, according to a study of Urban Poor Associates’ (UPA), a housing rights advocate. From January to December 2011, 14, 744 families or 73,780 individuals were evicted in 39 demolition incidents. 92 percent of evictions are considered illegal as they lack requirements called for in the Urban Development and Housing Act. Seven demolitions turned violent.

Today, on December 4, Mossovet and Left Front activists held a picket by the Nigeria embassy. They stood with posters saying “Nigerian inhabitants, we are with you!” and “No to lawless evictions!” After a while, a delegation of three activists entered the building to give the ambassador a letter on behalf of Mossovet.
