Pom Mahakan, a harmonious and well-run local community under siege in the heart of old Bangkok
Pom Mahakan, a community of approximately 300 people in the heart of old Bangkok, has been repeatedly threatened with forced eviction over a period of some 25 years in the name of a project of so-called “beautification” that violates the community’s human rights, especially as per art. 11 of ICESCR (to which Thailand is a signatory). The city authorities have shown no willingness even to consider the several highly constructive land-sharing projects that have been proposed; have defamed the community; and have offered only inadequate compensation.» Pom Mahakan, a harmonious and well-run local community under siege in the heart of old Bangkok
