Mary lives and works to Chattanooga, Tennessee, U.S.A and she is a Poor People Human Right Campaign's activist. The organization has as main objective to eradicate poverty from the world.
Mary says that the first and biggest problem is to remove the poor people's sense of guilty; they think they are losers and they have something wrong and unable and to change they own problematic condition.
The organization operate at local level, giving practical and legal information to families and trying to involve them to deal with their problems and supporting the community to occupy the empty houses in the area.
The good practices implemented by the organization demonstrate that the community work has a positive effect when people meet and work together without cultural religious and social barriers and when they claim a State working to serve the people and not the profit.
