OCTOBER 24 MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR THE HOMELESS

On Sunday October 24, CHAM Deliverance Ministry will hold a memorial service to honor the area’s homeless who have fallen due to poverty and neglect.

The memorial will be held at 3 pm in Roosevelt Park, at 19th and Santa Clara Street in San Jose, California.

Decisões:
According to the Coroner’s office, 66 people died while homeless in Santa Clara County in 2009, and 44 more have died homeless so far in 2010.

This memorial is held not only to pay our respects to those who have passed away, but also to fight for the living. It is held in solidarity with International Housing Rights and Zero Eviction Days this October. It will also coincide with the visit of UN Special Rapporteur Raquel Rolnick to the United States this month. Ms. Rolnick’s recent report pointed out that here in the world’s wealthiest country we have failed to guarantee the right to adequate housing for our people.

Securing housing for the homeless and all Americans is not about charity. It is a question of fundamental Biblical justice. While our people are suffering, our wealthiest corporations continue to impoverish the state with greedy demands for more tax breaks. If we as a society have material possessions, and see our brother and sister in need and have no compassion, how can the love of God be in us?
