Appeal to activist of Rights to Housing and Land: Join the Global Campaign of 2014 for the Right to Housing in Africa !

Recognizing the structural factors common to the neo-liberal system hiding behind the persistent and systematic violations of the rights to land and housing around the world, and following the decisions taken by the World Assemblies of Inhabitants, Dakar 2011, Tunis 2013 and the People's Alternative Urban Social Forum Medellin 2014, the International Alliance of Inhabitants appealed to all-e-s the activist-e-s for the right to land and housing around the continent to organize and participate in the framework of the World Zero Evictions Days- for in massive actions during the whole month of October 2014, demanding respect of the right to housing and land for all, the immediate end of forced evictions well as land grabbing, and stopping of persecution and intimidation of the activists.

All over the African continent, local communities are suffering serious violations of the rights to housing and land. That is why we must be constantly vigilant and we have to prepare at the local and national level to defend this right. In all corners of all the African countries, we must also make greater efforts to unite our forces in solidarity, to build partnerships and alliances with other actors, including local government, chiefdoms, and speak with a single voice if we want to make ourselves heard.

All persons, organizations, all movements engaged in the promotion, protection or defense of the right to housing in the countries of the continent are invited to tell us about the action that they will conduct during this period, so that we can follow, disseminate information to strengthen international solidarity with local struggles,  capitalize and make an echoes with partners and regional or international institutions competent.

The success of the World Days on our continent should serve as the best tool for strengthening the effectiveness of our different struggles and the impact of the demand for the right to housing on public habitat, housing and land governance policies,

Thank you for taking part in this convergence and moment of solidarity in the run-up to the World Assembly of Inhabitants (WSF, March 2015) as well as the United Nations Habitat III Summit in 2016.

It is vital that you/we/all of us stand together and take part!
