19/03/19, Padua, Italy – On trial for protecting evicted people: first court hearing

Dear comrades,Tuesday 19 March 2019 was the first hearing in the trial where I am being charged with "aggravated private violence" for an action carried out by Unione Inquilini defending an immigrant family from eviction in September 2017.

The hearing concluded quickly with a postponement until 02/10/2019, when the prosecution's witnesses and the undersigned will be heard. The defense witnesses will be heard at the third hearing, whose date has not yet been set.

I only did what needed to be done, and what the mayor of S. Martino di Lupari should have done, to defend the human rights of a couple and four young children who risked being thrown on the street. For this offence, I risk a sentence of up to 4 years in prison for a completely peaceful act, the same one I have been carrying out for 40 years and that many of you carry out every day.

This is one of the consequences of the climate we live in, with a Northern League minister who boasts of the evictions executed every day in complete violation of the international human rights law ratified by Italy.

But we will continue in this battle together, with calmness and determination.

Ciao in solidarity and zero evictions!

Cesare
