International mobilisation to save Boeung Kak Lake Residents from Eviction

A demonstration at the Municipality of Phnom Penh marked the start of a week of demonstrations around Asia on behalf of the embattled lakeside residents. “Save Cambodia’s Boeung Kak Lake Residents from eviction,” chanted groups of urban poor, belong to LOCOA and Four Region Slum Network protesting in front of Cambodia and Chinese Embassies in various countries in a show of solidarity.

Philippines, Urban Poor Oppose Restoration of Anti-Squatting Law

Urban poor gathered before Congress at Quezon City, Batasan Road today to oppose House Bill 2145, This is a bill amending Republic Act no. 8368, otherwise known as the “Anti-Squatting Law Repeal Act of 1997.” With them were the Task Force Anti-Eviction group composed of Urban Poor Associates (UPA), Community Organization of the Philippine Enterprise (COPE), Community Organizers Multiversity (COM) and Sentro ng Alternatibong Lingap Pangligal (SALIGAN).

Mumbai, Dharavi, PROUD, 31 year of struggles and results

People’s Responsible Organisation of United Dharavi (PROUD) organized 4 public meetings on Housing Rights and Pressing for the immediate implementation of long standing Dharavi Redevelopment Programme (DRP) with about 800-1000 people in each of the meeting between 8th  January, 2011 to 16th  January, 2011. PROUD also celebrated it’s 31st  Anniversary Programme along with it’s 15th  Biennial Convention.

The city of Bangalore, India is welcoming the World Assembly of Inhabitants (WAI) from August 18 to 23, 2010 during this new building phase. Resisting evictions in Navotas, Philippines (John Lagman, 2010) Evicted families, especially women, residing along Road 10 in Navotas City, Metro Manila, Philippines are appealing for solidarity and support. On January 18 to 20, and then on March 4 to the present, (March 12) the Philippine Department of Public Works and Highways and the City Government of Navotas have conducted demolition operations for the purpose of widening the road. To date, the homes of some 393 families of the targeted 1,000 families have been demolished.

Cambodia: Forced Eviction of the Reak Reay Community in Phnom Penh

Demolished house, luxury housing in the background 16 March 2009 At least 60 families living in the Reak Reay community, Tonle Bassac commune, Chamkarmon district, Phnom Penh, are facing imminent forced eviction. The families have been residing in the prime-city location since the 1990s, and have valid rights to the land under the Cambodian Land Law. The families have been resisting forced eviction attempts by Bassac Garden City and Canadia Bank since 2005. Appeal to the international solidarity
