USA, Poverty Working Group Announcements USSF
Over 20,000 people from across the United States and the world will unite at USSF in Detroit from June 22 – 26 to articulate visions and plan concrete strategies to strengthen and build our movements for social justice. The USSF is grounded in an understanding that successful social movements are always led by those most affected. The Poverty Working Group of the USSF has been working for months to bring poor people from across the country to Detroit for this historic opportunity to unite and create strategic plans for action.
USA, Report on Renter's Rights violations in Foreclosed Properties

Despite a federal law enacted in 2009 to protect renters living in foreclosed properties, many tenants across the country are still being threatened with eviction and are being forced to leave their homes on short notice. A report released by the National Law Center on Homelessness & Poverty, Staying Home: The Rights of Renters Living in Foreclosed Properties,
explains the impact of the new law and discusses problems with its implementation, and summarizes the results of a 50-state survey of developments in state laws protecting tenants living in foreclosed properties since early 2009.

En la carpa Derecho a la Ciudad del Foro Social Mundial-México, del 2 al 4 de mayo de 2010, aproximadamente 150 lideres del movimiento urbano popular mexicano, acompañados por la Federación Uruguaya de Cooperativas de Vivienda por Ayuda Mutua, COOPHABITAT de Dominicana, Federación de Tierra y Vivienda de Argentina, Forum Nacional de Reforma Urbana de Brasil, Movimiento Guatemalteco de Pobladores, Comité Promotor por la Renovación Urbana de Perú, Observatorio DESC de Barcelona, Servicio Voluntario de la Comunidad Europea, llegaron a las siguientes conclusiones:

En la primera conferencia inaugural, dictada el 2 de mayo de 2010, el compañero Pablo González, sostienen que “es necesario que la umanidad se dé cuenta de que esta viviendo en un mundo en el que se combinan elementos nuevos y otros antiquísimos, como la violencia más primitiva y la justicia más brutal, así como la posibilidad de que hoy como nunca tienen el ser humano de acabar con la vida en la tierra”.
World Social Forum-Mexico: inauguration
The World Social Forum Mexico 2010 took place from 2nd to 4th May in the Zócalo, the main square of Mexico City, with the theme ‘of the people and by the people: other solutions to the global crisis are possible’. On Sunday 2 May, on the stroke of 11 am, when the brilliant sun was burning the heart of the city of Tenochtitlán, flowers of a thousand different colors, incense, doves and cathedral bells greeted the defiant voices that were raised to open this great event, in the presence of representatives from over forty countries and of thousands of Mexican citizens.

La Red Nacional de Asentamientos Humanos – RENASEH, en el marco de la Conferencia Mundial de los Pueblos por el Cambio Climático, desarrolló a manera de evento autogestionado, un diálogo propositivo para conocer la visión de distintos actores en relación a los efectos del cambio climático y su impacto en el ejercicio del Derecho Humano a la Vivienda. A partir de ello se generaron planteamientos para el impulso de acciones respetuosas con el medio ambiente, que reduzcan las fracturas sociales y territoriales.
USA, Groups Take Back the Land During May 2010 Month of Action
The Take Back the Land Movement (TBLM, www.takebacktheland.org
) announced a May 2010 Month of Action in direct response to the ongoing economic and housing crisis. The month of action commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first Civil rights era sit-ins in Greensboro, NC. Thousands from across the country will participate in “live-ins” to demand the fundamental human right to housing. Groups in over a dozen cities across the country will move families into vacant government-owned and foreclosed homes, without permission, or physically defend families from eviction and foreclosure.
Argentina, agenda por tierra,vivienda y habitat después de Rio
El día jueves 20 de mayo “Antena Sur – Alianza Internacional de Habitantes” participó de la mesa de trabajo en la Cancillería Argentina para realizar una evaluación sobre el Foro Urbano Mundial de Rio de Janeiro y un debate para diseñar una agenda por el tema de "El Derecho a la Ciudad, al acceso al Suelo Urbano y Rural y el Derecho a la Vivienda Digna.”
Senado de Argentina, Jornada para el acceso al suelo y a la vivienda
El día 13 de Mayo, en el Senado de la Nación se desarrolló la “Jornada de Acceso al suelo urbano, bases para una nueva normativa del derecho a la vivienda y a la ciudad”.
El Encuentro se desarrolló para debatir y proponer, partiendo de la normativa vigente y de los proyectos de ley existentes en el Congreso de la Nación, los contenidos necesarios para generar una legislación que incluya un marco general de planificación urbana, de regulación del uso del suelo y de las condiciones de desempeño de los mercados del suelo e inmuebles para que el acceso a la tierra y a la vivienda puedan transformarse en derechos efectivos.
