El huracán Álex en la noche del 29 de Junio llegó a las costas del Gulfo de México y se degradó a tormenta tropical provocando lluvias extraordinarias en Nuevo León.

Con las lluvias, más de seis ríos se desbordaron, el mayor de magnitud el río de santa Catarina que colapsó el principal eje vial de Monterrey. El agua arrasó con todo a su paso, destruyiendo infraestructura urbana, provocando el cierre de avenidas y carreteras, cortes del suministro de electricidad y debasto de agua potable.
Fueron evacuadas cerca de 2 mil viviendas para la inundación y deja inhabitales 7 mil.

En la noche del 29 de Junio, el hurac´an Álex se degradó a tormenta tropical y el temporal que ne risultó afectó muy gravemente diversos municipios de Nuevo León, provocando daños estructurales y viales muy fortes. Para la furia de la devastación la Secretaría de Gobernación emitió declaratoria de emergencia. Cerca en la noche 29 de Junio .
